Busking is magic; something that has existed for centuries across the globe and across the street. In an age that has gone digital, the art of busking patiently waits for our senses to re-awaken, so that we, once again, discover and re-discover the spontaneous art that manifests in so many ways; juggling, dancing, mime, magic, music and more. Busking connects us to strangers on the streets and enhances our daily experience. The centuries old tradition of busking, takes nerves of steel, patience and talent. It is a time honored tradition that exists across the globe and across the street.
Lorenzo Laroc is a native New Yorker, electric violinist, composer, arranger and busker. He began playing the violin at the age of eight, and today performs his instrument in a variety of styles. He recently sent me a great story, that I love sharing here. Thanks Lorenenzo for letting me peek into your world.
“Heather, I have a great story for your site. On December 7th here in NYC I arrived at a client’s home in Gramercy Park to do a dinner party for 35 people. That is all the information I had upon my arrival. I figured it was another holiday party, in which I have done quite a few in my career. As I entered the building I was set upon by bomb sniffing dogs, secret service agents, and NYC detectives. They say "drop your gear, let's see your passport, and don't move." Needless to say I was freaked out. After about a half hour I was allowed to go upstairs to the client’s apartment. As I enter the apartment the client tells me. "I am so sorry Lorenzo but for security reasons I could not tell you who was coming to dinner, but in an hour, Princess Kate and Prince William will be coming to dinner." All I could say was "Wow!" I stood 10 feet from the Royals for the next two hours in a small dining room ‘Rocking the Royals’. A night I will never forget.”
Lorenzo’s entire story is featured in the award winning book, The Noise Beneath the Apple®, New York City Edition.
(If you are a busker, and have a fun story to share, please send it my way: heather@heatherjacks.com.
